First eye exam in 3 or 4 years this week. realized that it will be cheaper to get contacts than a new pair of glasses. also realized I’ve worn glasses pretty much every day of my life since i was 5 (there was one month my junior or senior year of high school after i broke them, and had to wait until i could buy a new pair, but thats it). soooo i feel awkward about that. itll feel like im...

Feminism (Via Straight White Man)
The first time I was called a feminist, I was in high school. I didn’t understand it then. Not because i didn’t know what feminism was (or at least i thought i understood it), but because the word was hurled at me like a racially charged insult. One of my best friends had broken up with his girlfriend and was trying to stick his dick into anything he could (with some success). When he...

On coming off as racist.
dearcoketalk: You can really come off as racist sometimes, a culture racist.
A culture racist? Ugh. Your skin is thinner than your vocabulary. The word you’re looking for is ethnocentrist, and if you had the slightest clue, you’d realize that I’m actually more of a cultural relativist. I’m also an asshole, but since it’s easier for you to get offended than it is to get educated, you can’t...

25 Things I Learned From Opening a Used Bookstore →
holyfarts: unchartedbooks: 1.  People are getting rid of bookshelves.  Treat the money you budgeted for shelving as found money.  Go to garage sales and cruise the curbs. 2.  While you’re drafting that business plan, cut your projected profits in half.  People are getting rid of bookshelves. 3.  If someone comes in and asks where to find the historical fiction, they’re not looking for...

New York City
Something I have never understood about people who move to NYC. Many of them don’t realize that the city does not give a fuck about you. In fact, the city probably hates you. You are just another body piling into its bloated limits, thinking that this is the place where everything happens. It is. And everything includes all the hardship, and hate, and grime humanity has. You can visit NYC...

On the idea of online dating sites.
This is something I have thought about. I know a lot of people who have either been using/or started using these types of sites. Many speak positively of them, and I have even seen a few real legit relationships begin this way. So i decided to check one out….. I many times suck at meeting new people, but realized that I probably am more freaked out about meeting people online. It’s...

what is happening?
So. I just need to share with someone. I haven’t owned a bed in 15 years. I bought a queen size bed yesterday. Shelled out some bank for it too. But i decided to go really crazy, and got a giant furry comforter (advertised as the cuddliest comforter ever, it doesnt dissapoint), and sheets that are 10% cashmere. I almost feel like an adult. I guess this also means I’ll be sticking...

Randomness
One of my favorite people in the world, and her husband, now live in California. She has always been a horticultural enthusiast, and loves gardens and plants like i love poets and poems. On the phone with her husband a few weeks ago, he is happily telling me about some fantastic reefer he is smoking on his ride home from work, and how life is good. I simply replied that I have not been in this new...

New update. never mind. the previous post.
this is day 4 without hot water. our heat isnt working either. Lonnie used two part chickens we had in the fridge to make a stew, but just threw them in a pot without picking the bones off….. this means i am spending this friday in a house, by myself, no hot water or heat, eating a chicken stew that is mostly bones. fml. for the win.
